Earlier today (23rd August) Temple Bar Cultural Trust welcomed John O Donoghue T.D., Minister for Arts, Sport and Tourism, to the Temple Bar Cultural Information Centre where he launched Dublins first ever Culture Night which takes place throughout the city on Friday 22nd September 2006.
So far over forty cultural organisations have agreed to take part in the event which, we hope, will become part of Dublins cultural calendar.
Minister ODonoghue acknowledged TBCTs role in leading this initiative: I know that Temple Bar Cultural Trust is hoping to bring Dublin in line with other prominent European capitals with this innovative approach to making arts and culture more accessible through free admissions, special events and extended opening hours. The idea for holding this night in Dublin stems from the Trust's own experience in organising two culture nights held in Temple Bar in the past - and, of course, this part of Dublin alone is home to over 50 arts and cultural organisations such as the Gallery of Photography, the Ark, the Gaiety School of Acting, Project Arts Centre and the Irish Film Institute amongst others. I would like to congratulate the Temple Bar Cultural Trust and its CEO Mr. Dermot McLaughlin on its 15th birthday this year. This Culture Night is one of the organisation's biggest cultural developments for 2006. It is a marvelous, unified gesture of outreach to a wider audience.
