Minister O�Donoghue announces �2million for restoration and refurbishment of Smock Alley Theatre in Temple Bar
John O�Donoghue TD, Minister for Arts, Sport and Tourism has announced an investment of �2m towards the restoration and refurbishment of Smock Alley Theatre in the Old City area of Temple Bar, Dublin�s Cultural Quarter.
It is expected �350,000 of this will be spent in 2006.
Minister O�Donoghue said �Smock Alley Theatre is one of the oldest theatres in the world, and I am delighted to announce that �2million is being allocated for this important facility, which will provide rehearsal and performance space for many groups including the Gaiety School of Acting�
Temple Bar Cultural Trust, owners of the site and building complex today warmly welcomed Minister John O�Donoghue�s decision.
Dermot McLaughlin, CEO of Temple Bar Cultural Trust said �Smock Alley Theatre will again make an enormous contribution to cultural life in Temple Bar and Dublin. The Minister�s decision will help bring back to life a theatre that is of huge European importance. Along with the Gaiety School of Acting, our development partners in this project, we are delighted at this far-reaching decision which will greatly add to the cultural infrastructure in Dublin�s Cultural Quarter in Temple Bar.�
