The Touring Experiment has launched...
The Touring Experiment is an initiative of The Arts Council, set up as a two year action research project, which is designed to inform and shape future policy for touring in the Republic of Ireland.
A dynamic and interactive process, The Touring Experiment is designed to work with a representative sample of proposed touring initiatives, seeking to support artists and producers at every stage of the process, whilst at the same time carefully examining the needs of presenters, venues, festivals, and audiences with regard to the work being toured.
An open dialogue will be maintained throughout to ensure the experience of participants, as well as that of the audiences, is properly reflected in the reporting structures of the Touring Experiment itself. The research and evaluation process will be led by Belinda Moller.
The Arts Council will be working with a number of partners to realise this initiative including, the Irish Theatre Institute in relation to theatre and dance, and, in the visual arts, with IMMA.
The Arts Council has contracted Temple Bar Cultural Trust to manage The Touring Experiment based on its experience of in managing publicly funded programmes for multi-artform touring.
Over the two years, 2007 and 2008, the Arts Council will invite calls for proposals for touring in December, February and May 2007 and possibly Autumn 2007. Initially a sum of �2m will be available to support the initiative.
CALL FOR PROPOSALS
The first closing dates for expressions of interest (Theatre and Dance only) will be 17th November 2006. Those selected will be invited to submit a more detailed proposal for 20th December 2006.
The next deadline (Theatre, Dance and other artforms to be announced) will be 23rd February 2007. Further closing dates for 2007 will be announced early in the New Year.
